Title: %Villa - Tamworth can go top tonight.
Post by: Andy_Lochhead_in_the_air on September 21, 2010, 01:52:53 PM
Tamworth play Bath City at The Lamb tonight, a win will put then top of the Blue Square Premier with ten games played. Now I am not saying they are going to go all the way and get promoted into the league proper but its a hell of an achievement for a club with a regular following  below a thousand, competing with the likes of Luton, Mansfield, Wrexham, AFC Wimbledon etc.

I don't follow non-league but anything that brings a bit of glamour to the West Midlands is alright by me.

Dave likes this.

As a Tamworth fan I can tell you now that it is unlikely to last, we have such a small wage budget that we have had to compromise. We have only 18 first team players (and no reserves), this includes the manager and coach (Des Lyttle), and no signed goalkeeper (we have a Derby youngster on loan at the moment). It's quality over quantity but a couple of injuries and suspensions and we are playing 16 year olds from the youth team!

We are loving it at the moment though, I'm off over there in a few minutes.

Might pop down there later on in the season if they're still in the promotion mix.

Hope they make the league.

I thought our young Swiss 'Keeper was there on loan too?

Looks like lucky to escape a draw though last night.

They looked quite good when I saw them, especially going forward. The big centre-forward Kyle Perry stood out. He's ex-Port Vale and probably good enough to play league football again if he wants to. If they are thin on numbers, as DC suggests, they may struggle as the season goes on compared to teams like Moneybags Crawley.

Still, 4th place = great start.

Small teams with very small grounds like Exeter and Aldershot have made it to the football leagues... I'm sure there is hope for Tamworth; getting into the playoffs this season would be fantastic. It's only a matter of time before Tamworth play small heath in the football leagues, small heath's survival rate doesn't last long in the Premier League so they will be relegated soon... I'm thinking the 2014/15 season when Tamworth play them hehe.

We had Siegrist for the pre-season friendlies but Villa wanted him back.
Last night was strange, we were outplayed for half an hour when Bath scored twice and frankly we were rubbish, then we scored out of nothing and the belief seemed to flood back and we played some superb stuff in the second half, equalised through ex-Villa yoof Jay Smith), hit the woodwork twice, might have had a couple of penalties - a draw was probably fair though.

Kyle Perry is a Carew type centre-forward, big, bruising and hard to handle but is starting to get penalised as his reputation is getting to the frankly shite referees down here!

Our board would collectively shit themselves if we got promoted.
