So. It turns out that our academy were over here in Germany last weekend for a fairly prestigious U-20 tournament down south. I'm a bit peeved that I didn't know about it in advance. Like me, you'll have to make do with some snippets from the local German press, which include pics and a couple of videos of our victory in the final.

Here's what I've been able to glean:

The guy is a PR genius... this week we have seen a massive hike in ticket prices, an average of over 20% increase across the ground, at a time when people can least afford it. Who was targeted for the biggest increase? People who can least afford it; kids!

Without even saying a word, most people seem perfectly happy about this.

Apr 24 2008 By Bill Howell

VILLA today announced season ticket price increases of around 7.5 per cent, around twice the level of inflation, after keeping prices pegged for the last two seasons.

But the club insist that their prices still reflect some of the best value in the Premier League and are again to offer a range of initiaves as they attempt to increase last season's record number of season ticket holders - 25,792.

Villa Park's top priced tickets have been increased to £510 after being held at £475 since the 05/06 season.

But the most expensive adult seat will still cost less than £27 per game.

Other examples include the under-16 price bracket where a junior will be able to watch from a central seat for just £195 – or a little over £10 per game and a saving of approximately £500 on buying match tickets.

The cheapest season ticket in the stadium (North Stand lower) offers a season of top-flight football for just £265 to an adult supporter at a rate of just £13.90 per match.

The club will offer a pricing structure for serving members of the armed forces and students.

They have also reduced the number of categories and reviewed concessionary prices for season and match tickets in certain areas of the ground.

Villa have recorded their highest average attendance for 48 years with a current figure of 40,249 which is likely to be improved upon with the final home game with Wigan.

Nicola Keye, Head of Consumer Sales said: "Season ticket holders play a vital role on match days and we regard it as vitally important that our prices continue to be affordable for fans next season.

"We pride ourselves on the fact that adults can purchase a season ticket for under £300 for the 08/09 season.

"We’re also proud of the fact that Junior Villans can watch Premiership football at Villa Park for as little as £4.50 per game together with family of 4 who can get to Villa Park for £700, that’s just £37 per game."
